Strategy change at Apple: iCar not autonomous

24.01.2024

According to reports, the well-known manufacturer of smartphones and computer technology has scaled down its original plans for a fully autonomous electric car and instead aims to launch a vehicle with driving assistance systems by 2028. Doubts about the implementation of the autonomous project led to a former employee, who previously worked for a prominent electric car company, moving to a traditional US automotive group, where he now heads electric car development. Current prototypes and concepts have already been presented to European production partners, and the company plans to develop the vehicle technology further at a later date. The technology giant would not be the first of its kind with a market launch in 2028, as a Japanese electronics group plans to launch its electric car under a new brand name as early as 2026.
